Re: New Lava Viewing area to be open to the public March 8 at 2pm. Last vehicles allowed in at 8pm. Viewing area will be shut down at 10pm. You're not going to believe this. The lava flow has been advancing down to the ocean and is now cascading over the side of the island into the ocean ON THE SURFACE so that it can be seen by lookers. In light of this, there is going to be a public "viewing area" set up tomorrow at 2pm by the State which will allow us to see this event. They will take the last cars into this area by 8pm and will shut down the viewing area at 10pm. This is truly a momentous occasion. I haven't seen anything like this in YEARS! Last time I saw this (in '99, as I recall) - there was this huge and dramatic steam plume as the lava hit the water. Cool.
Of course, I am going to be there!/
I will try to update you on what I experience.
